Powder trap dye turns black when mixed with water, and turns traps a dark black color. In a container large enough to cover the amount of traps that you want to treat at a time add 1 pound of red powder to 5 gallons of boiling water and simmer for 1 hour. Add water as needed to keep traps completely covered. Remove traps, rinse with water and hang up to dry. Can be used on all steel traps.

Rennos trap dye is an all-natural and organic trap dye. One bag of dye in 10-12 gallons of water will treat 25-30 #3 size or 40-50 #1.75 traps that are moderately clean. Heat water with dye and traps immersed to a light boil and simmer/boil for a couple hours. Traps can now be waxed if desired. With excessively dirty or rusty traps bring to a rolling boil and hold there for an hour or more, then add another bag of dye and simmer for 30 minutes, let soak for 3-4 days. Traps treated as per above instructions will have a medium dark finish that is nearly rust proof and odorless and will weather 3-4 weeks of trapping without waxing. New traps should be washed in hot, soapy water to clean them of manufacturing oil before dyeing, but do not need to be rusted.
